The Athens Area Diaper Bank works to eliminate diaper need by distributing diapers to low-income Athens families and raising public awareness about diaper need and its impact.
The Athens Area Diaper Bank is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
Families experiencing “”diaper need”” struggle to keep their children in clean diapers.
Diaper need affects one in every three American families, with diapers costing around $900 per year.
Over 8,000 Athens-area children are at risk of diaper dependency.
Because government assistance programs like WIC and food stamps do not cover the cost of diapers, many diaper-needy families are forced to re-use soiled diapers or forego other necessities like food to purchase diapers.
Diaper shortages prevent parents from attending school or working; children cannot attend daycare or preschool programs without a supply of clean diapers.
Since the Athens Area Diaper Bank’s inception in October 2015, we have collected diapers from friends and family, local businesses, preschools, sororities and fraternities, UGA departments, local Girl Scouts, churches, and mothers’ groups.
Our partner agencies, which are other local nonprofits, agencies, and organizations in our 6-county service area, distribute diapers to families.
The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia initially helped us as we grew and learned how to help our community.
The AADB became an independent organization in late 2018.
