Lisa Sweet has spent more than 30 years residing in Contra Costa County. She worked for the county as a registered nurse in health services and as a liaison for adoptive and foster families with Children and Family Services (CPS).

In Contra Costa County, Lisa and her family have also worked as a licensed foster family. In 2013, Lisa launched Sweet Beginnings Women’s Resource Center after identifying the needs of these families. Many of the young women we work with are in need, don’t have any family to support them, and don’t know the father of their kids.

We also assist married women, foster parents, and family caregivers who have one working member of their household.

The necessity to provide preventive instead than responding to a catastrophe led to the development of the Sweet Beginnings Family Resource Center. Martinez, California is home to the Sweet Beginnings Diaper Bank. We are a diaper bank that also offers feminine hygiene items to customers directly and via Community Partners. We give out more than 15,000 diapers each month and receive requests for more.

Our services help the most vulnerable members of society. We are a completely volunteer-run organization, including Lisa, who continues to work as a pediatric nurse. If you are interested in joining our community partnership, please get in touch with us.
